On Jan. 1, Louisiana became the latest state to implement new low-lead legislation for plumbing. The new law requires no more than 0.2% lead in solder and flux, and a weighted average of no more than 0.25% lead for wetted surfaces.Louisiana joins California, Vermont and Maryland as the first states to implement stricter low-lead requirements ahead of the Federal Lead Plumbing Law, which will take effect Jan. 1, 2014. In the two years leading up to its implementation, more states may enact their own legislation.
